Perfectly Rehearsed

When I asked Nicola our General Manager (and Wedding Fairy Godmother) one of the most common questions from brides, she said it’s whether or not to have a rehearsal before the big day.  Here are her top tips:

The wedding rehearsal can be a great help for the wedding party.  If you think about it, you and your groom to be have planned all this and have a picture in your heads of what’s going to happen.  Your poor wedding party have very little idea and are unlikely to have seen the venue for the ceremony.

The rehearsal gives everyone a chance to see what’s expected of them and puts everyone’s minds at ease.  Even if your celebrant doesn’t want a rehearsal or doesn’t think it’s needed it’s a good idea to have one yourselves anyway.

Things that should be discussed/decided at the rehearsal are:

  • Where everyone stands
  • Bridesmaids/flower girls – do you want them to enter the church in front of you or behind?
  • Where the loos are
  • If you are in a church it may be a good idea to invite the organist along to set out the entrance music, speed, where you come in etc
  • Any décor you may have could be set out at the rehearsal where possible and save a job for the morning
  • If you are using CD’s/Ipod then it’s a chance to test they work with the sound system
  • What time the groom and his groomsmen should arrive and where the ushers are to stand and give out the order of service
  • Its also a god chance to ensure that your dress and your dad will fit down the aisle (without giving too much away to your groom) or if you have to make alternative plans!
  • Finally ensure that you have collected and handed over your wedding licence to your minister/Vicar – No Licence No Wedding!!

If you are having a civil ceremony ensure that your groom and witnesses are there in time to meet with the celebrant to check the paperwork.
